When Harper’s Bazaar Arabia wanted to show the anatomy of a supermodel, they chose Anne Vyalitsyna and the dramatic landscape of Joshua Tree. The Russian supermodel, Sports Illustrated veteran, Victoria’s Secret alumna, brought her signature blend of fierce confidence and effortless sensuality to a desert editorial that would define summer glamour for the June issue. I documented the tension John Russo and stylist Sally Matthews built between polished glamour and raw desert.
Deconstructing a Supermodel.
The Anne-Atomy concept explored what makes a supermodel by placing Anne in an environment that stripped away studio artifice. The desert demanded authentic presence and natural confidence, the qualities that separate supermodels from conventional models. Whether navigating rocky terrain in heels or holding perfect poses in desert heat, Anne’s professionalism never wavered. Between takes the reality of Joshua Tree showed itself, careful planning, frequent hydration breaks, constant attention to safety, while the editorial’s glamorous vision held.
